There is no doubt about it; ITC affects us all as
individuals and communities. We as community have become reliant on IT, as the
years have gone by IT has evolved and we with it. I mean seriously could you
imagine a world without it? I dare not. IT saves us so much time and effort; at
our fingertips we can do your shopping, keep in touch with friends, get up to
date news. Not to mention the CCTV all around the UK which dropped UK crime
rate dramatically... the list goes on and on with so many benefits. But is it
making us dumber as a collective? Will it affect our future generations? By
becoming so reliant on the internet are we forgetting what it really means to
be human. I grew up in the transition of the internet being released, back when
people of communities knew each other, but as the internet has advanced and
social Medias, forums etc. Have become fashionable, the younger generations are
more focused on “online communities” and less on the real communities. It is
the real communities were you gain social skills, core values and respect. Anyways,
let me know what you think and hit me a comment.
I don't think the internet is making us dumber, but I think when people go on the internet they only look up things for their side of the argument and don't want to look at both sides so even through the internet has all this information most people only care for their side even if it's wrong, they will only visit websites and read information that shares their views and ignore anything that says different.
ReplyDeletevery true, what I meant by dumber is because we have all this information that we can access at any time, "just google it". so we do not bother taking all this information in. what would happen if the internet went down, would we still be as smart as we think we are?
DeleteI agree when you say that younger generations focus more on online communities than their local community but i disagree when you say that the internet is making us dumber. Google is your friend, it is widely known that you shouldn't believe everything you see on the internet. So the I think in terms of intelligence its more the individual than collective.
ReplyDeletewhat I meant by dumber, is that we do not take information on as much as we should because we have access to it at all times. for example, if we needed to find something out we would just Google it. but if the internet was to go down, would the younger generations cope as well as the older generations who grew up without the internet? does the younger generation even know how to read a map or post a letter?
DeleteI want to agree as ever since i got my computer or Xbox i have almost never gone outside to "Hang Out" with my friends as most of them i know only online and obviously this is really bad but also it has introduced me to so many new people and groups of people who are into the same things i am such as Dota 2 and Call of Duty which when i'm playing with them i have so much to talk about but this is just my opinion.
ReplyDeleteseems to be how IT is evolving, hanging out with mates online is much easier and more convenient online.
